No Objection Certificate (NOC) Requirements for Foreign Travelers
One of the most important things to understand before traveling between Iran and Pakistan is the No Objection Certificate (NOC) requirement for foreign nationals. The NOC is issued by the Government of Pakistan and authorizes foreign travelers to move through certain parts of Balochistan.
The NOC requirements differ depending on which border crossing you use.
Entering Pakistan via Taftan Border
If you enter Pakistan through the Taftan–Mirjaveh Border Crossing, you must obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) in Quetta before you can continue your journey to the rest of Pakistan.
After completing immigration and customs formalities at Taftan, travelers generally proceed to Quetta under the procedures applicable at the time. Once in Quetta, you must visit the relevant Home Department office to obtain your NOC before travelling onward to destinations such as:
- Islamabad
- Lahore
- Karachi
- Hunza Valley
- Skardu
- Gilgit
- Fairy Meadows
- Swat Valley
Without this NOC, you may not be permitted to continue beyond Quetta. Travelers should also be aware that movement between Taftan and Quetta may be subject to security arrangements or convoy procedures depending on current regulations.
Exiting Pakistan via Taftan Border
The same requirement applies when leaving Pakistan through the Taftan Border.
Before travelling from Quetta toward Taftan and crossing into Iran, foreign travelers must obtain an exit NOC from the relevant authorities. This document authorizes travel through Balochistan toward the international border and is normally checked during the journey.
Entering Pakistan via Gabd–Rimdan Border
The Gabd–Rimdan Border Crossing offers a simpler arrival process for many travelers.
If you are entering Pakistan from Iran through Gabd–Rimdan, an NOC is generally not required for entry, allowing you to continue your journey after completing immigration and customs formalities. This makes Gabd–Rimdan an attractive option for travelers heading toward Gwadar and the Makran Coastal Highway.
Exiting Pakistan via Gabd–Rimdan Border
If you plan to leave Pakistan through the Gabd–Rimdan Border, the situation is different.
Foreign travelers are generally required to obtain an NOC before travelling through Balochistan to the Gabd–Rimdan border. Because permit procedures can change, it is strongly recommended to arrange the required documentation before beginning your journey toward the border.
